           TWIST SOFTWARE MEETING MINUTES
                   September 18, 2001

GEANT
=======

GEANT 2.0

o GEANT 2.0 has been released. Peter Gumplinger reported that many modifications have
been made in this version. In particular there are now only two generators: a cosmic ray
generator, and a particle gun. The particle gun is very flexible. The user can specify the
size of the Gaussian source, or read in rays from a data file. Emitance is a flat square box,
and momentum is a flat distribution.

o The geometry input file has been changed: the first change is regarding the plane angle.
This was changed so that the wire positions are calculated using this rotation angle. The
wire number in the MC are now consistent with the hardware assignments. As a result of
the changes to dt_geo, and to match the numbering scheme of the hardware, MOFIA
will need to be modified. The second change in dt_geo is regarding scintillators.
Corresponding modifications have to be made in MOFIA. Konstantin volunteered for
 both modifications.

o Peter added detailed documentation of how to use the various flags and settings
 to the FFCARDS file.

o All code following version 1.4 has been included in GEANT 2.0. Peter modified/
simplified the resolution code that was written by Roy. Two parameters can be
adjusted to smear the times in GEANT by the correct amount in order to reproduce
the resolution function calculated from real data. The code requires testing in order
to prove that this resolution function can be reproduced by adjusting the two parameters.
 A volunteer is needed!!

MOFIA
======

QOD
o Kate is now helping Art with the QOD. She is testing the code designed to alert the user
when histograms are found to change from their expected contents by referring to a standard
 set of histograms.

o Blair will produce a set of PAW macro files to facilitate the process of looking at a
particular set of histograms for people on shift.

CFM

o Blair will do the mapping of the run numbers to the appropriate calibration files, and
make sure that the correct calibration files are added to the CFM data base.

ABSOFT

o Art pointed out that a bug exists in ABSOFT which results in a crash when MOFIA
tries to open a non-existing file. The same problem occurs if a file is opened but not
closed. Make sure you close any file you open, and that the file name is specified correctly.

YBS Files

o Andrei and Konstantin will make a list of the YBS files from the August run describing
 the files and their location.

TWIST cluster

o A new tape drive will be bought soon (before the next run) to avoid conflicts between
offline analyses and data copying to tape in the next run.

o Summer student accounts should be closed few weeks after they leave and their directories
should be linked (as a subdirectory) to the supervisor's account who can decide to keep
and delete files as he finds appropriate.

o Konstantin will upgrade Jim's machine to RH 7.1, and will change the settings of 7.1 on the
remaining machines for automatic refreshing of graphics.

Nate

o Nate expressed concern about the offline analysis of the current data for the NSERC
review and the status of the software for the next run (with the magnet). Discussions
of both of these issues should be pursued at the software meetings.
