TWIST SOFTWARE MEETING MINUTES
November 17, 2000
1. Progress on deciding on a fixed version of LINUX, ABSOFT, ROOT & CERN:
Renee should send out a detailed message regarding this. Currently TRIUMF
is using RedHat 6.2. TRIUMF is using ABSOFT 7.0 which other institutions
don't have. Art, however, suggested that TRIUMF should continue testing
this version of ABSOFT before ordering it for everyone, as a potentially
serious bug was found which might be related to this version of ABSOFT.
This bug, however, does not effect any of the existing TWIST code. The
ROOT library version depends on the version of LINUX used, and should be
specified in Renee's email. Should everyone be using CERN 2000 ?
2. Code installation status at U of A:
MOFIA and GEANT have been successfully installed at U of A. A minor
problem regarding CFM lock files was encountered when MOFIA was ran
which required changing permissions. Art reported that Renee has fixed
this problem.
3. Update on cosmic data analysis status:
All bugs encountered so far have been fixed, and the analysis is in
progress. This version, however, have not been updated. More recent
versions exist on CVS. The reason for this is to avoid running into
bugs that might delay the analysis process. Once the first stage of
the analysis is completed, the code will be updated to be consistent
with CVS.
4. Event display:
Code has to be written to superimpose the tracks on the event display.
Paul reported that Jim has this code written, and Art and Maher together
with Jim will integrate it with the official code.
5. New version of MOFIA:
Art, Jim and Maher will work on integrating the pattern recognition and
tracking code once Jim makes it to Vancouver next week. CVS will then be
updated, and a new version of MOFIA will be tagged. This version will
include straight line and helix tracking with no timing.
6. Plane alignment code:
Don visited TRIUMF a couple of weeks ago and worked with Maher on writing
UV module transverse alignment code. A good amount of progress was made.
residual calculations as prescribed by the Kalman filter were added to
the kalman tracking code (kalman_mod), and the main part of a new module
(align_mod) was written where the alignment calculations will be done.
7. New GEANT banks:
Maxim has the two integer and real GEANT banks working now. He now has to
add the ascii bank where the FFCARDS info will be stored. Maxim and Renee
will test this and add it to CVS. The analysis code will then be modified
to unpack the new GEANT banks.
8. Geometry modifications:
Dave will start working on the geometry in GEANT to take out the part
that has been hard wired in the MC and put it in the geometry data file.
He will start by making an interactive version of GEANT to make it more
convenient to produce a display of the geometry.
9. GEANT CPU:
Dave will monitor CPU time in the various sections of the MC to see
where most of the CPU time is spent, and then see if modifications can
be made to the time consuming sections. Maher will give Dave an example
of the use of a CERN subroutine that can be used to calculate CPU times.
10. Progress on adding a simple efficiency calculation to the MC:
Don has been away most of the time since the last meeting. He will
start working on this code next week.
