 			    Software Meeting
			     July 25, 2000

1. Update on Tracking:
----------------------

We now have volunteers for the tracking support jobs outlined in last
meeting's minutes

	1. GARFIELD input files: Yuri will produce GARFIELD data files.
Maher will combine these files to produce two 2-D tables, one
for the analysis and one for the MC. The analysis file will
give x(theta,t), and the MC file will be its inverse t(theta,x).
These files will have the form xt_bon.00001 (field on) and
xt_bof.00001 (field off), and will be read in through CFM. The
first 3 lines will be reserved for author, date, and other parameters
(pressure, temperature, HV, etc). This is already underway.

	2. Rob Macdonald will install the GARFIELD file in the MC and Maher
will install it in the analysis code. This is already underway.

	3. Investigating the Kalman filtering failure cases, and optimizing
the choice of the covariance matrix was given to Farhana. Farhana
reported some progress on the issue, and will continue investigating.

	4. Studying Energy Loss (EL) and Multiple Scattering (MS) to come
up with appropriate formulas/parametrizations to install in the
tracking will be done by Andrei Arbuzov, a new postdoc with the
U of A theory group who is interested in TWIST. Andrei will also
be looking into second order radiation corrections in the future.

2. Data Structures:
-------------------

The most recent version of the data structures has been posted at

http://stoney.phys.ualberta.ca/~e614//Projects/E614SOFTWARE/00064

It includes the time window structure and a modification of the track
structure.

3. Update on Pattern Recognition:
--------------------------------

Progress has been made on the "pattern recognition" code following
several discussions between Jim Art and Maher. The pattern recognition
code is ready, but needs comprehensive testing. The first guess code
is in progress.

3. Update on Event Display:
---------------------------

Paul's recent modifications of the display code did not make it into CVS.
Paul will look into this and commit his medications to CVS.

LINUX systems at TRIUMF has been updated to Red Hat 6.2 (RHAT-Q, down 12%
today). This is not compatible with the ROOT package. Paul will look into
this.

4. Update on FORTRAN 90 Documentation:
--------------------------------------

Bill Shin will have a posting before the next software meeting on how
the f90 documentation script works.

5. Data Base:
-------------

More progress on the data base is being made. The data base is ready
for some components to be entered. The question of whether we want
all files to be inside the data base or just a pointer to the file
name was raised. Renee pointed out that some of these files can be
big PS files (such as wire pulse heights etc). People involved with
data structures will discuss this further and make the decision.
