1. Update on Tracking:
----------------------
The Kalman filter has been installed in MOFIA. A GEANT file with a
mono energetic positron beam (fixed angle, 2.2T field, no EL or MS)
was generated and the Kalman filter was tested on this file by
fitting wire positions. The results show that the Kalman filter is
able to successfully find the helix parameters in most cases. The
filter failure rate depends on the choice of the covariance matrix.
This still needs further testing. Farhana was assigned the job of
investigating the failure cases and how to adjust the covariance
matrix to achieve optimum performance of the filter.
The next step is to put in the TDC timing in the tracking. This will
be done with a focus on straight tracks for now.
More information on this is posted at
http://stoney.phys.ualberta.ca/~e614//Projects/E614SOFTWARE/00060
2. Tracking Support Jobs:
-------------------------
Few tracking-support jobs were outlined. These jobs need volunteers
to allow faster progress on the tracking front. Please contact me if
you think you can help with any of these jobs. The jobs are the
following:
1. GARFIELD input files: Two GARFIELD data files are needed
(right away) so we can put the timing in the tracking. The
first file is x(t,theta) required for the analysis. The second
file is its inverse t(x,theta) required for the MC.
2. Installation of the GARFIELD file in the MC (i.e. calculating
the time from the x distance; some of this was already put in by
Dennis in some form).
3. Investigating the Kalman filtering failure cases, and optimizing
the choice of the covariance matrix.
4. Studying Energy Loss (EL) and Multiple Scattering (MS) to come
up with appropriate formulas/parametrizations to install in the
tracking, and generating the required tables from GEANT.
Some of these jobs can accommodate more than one person (working together
or separately). These jobs are critical for the November run!
3. Measurements Needed in the November Run:
-------------------------------------------
Field Off:
* High beam energy (positrons > 100 MeV, at 0 degrees) will be used
for:
A. Plane alignment studies.
B. Plane efficiencies.
C. STR investigations (data vs GARFIELD etc).
* Cosmic tests will be done the in detector facility. Cosmic
trigger during the November run is not a priority since it can be
done after the run is over.
Field ON:
* Surface muon beam:
A. Tests of helix tracking.
B. Plane efficiencies.
C. STRs.
4. Update on Pattern Recognition:
--------------------------------
The "pattern recognition" code and helix parameters "first guess" code
required for the November run should be installed in MOFIA by July 30.
5. Update on Event Display:
---------------------------
Paul, Jim and Maher had a conference call on event display. Paul and
Jim posted the minutes from this discussion at
http://stoney.phys.ualberta.ca/~e614//Projects/E614SOFTWARE/00062
6. Update on FORTRAN 90 Documentation:
--------------------------------------
Bill Shin tested the F90 documentation Perl script on an F90 module
and will continue to figure out how it works.
7. Data Base:
-------------
More progress on the data base is being made. Andrei will give us
a timeline for the data base at the next meeting. Renee pointed out
that some aspects of the data base need to be ready soon so we can
start logging in chamber information as they are assembled.
