Pattern Recognition (Jim):
--------------------------

Several modifications have been done. The code is
currently compiling and running. An outline of the
status of the pattern recognition code and a list
of the subroutines and a short description have been
posted at

http://stoney.phys.ualberta.ca/~e614//Projects/E614SOFTWARE/00057/

It was pointed out that a discussion of the code is
required to make sure that the structures and
implementation are compatible with future modifications
(that would include pattern recognition for more
complicated events), and will also be compatible with
the first guess and tracking code. Jim will send his
"final" version of the pattern recognition code to Art
and Maher this week, and a phone meeting will be held
between the three next week to discuss the code.

It was also pointed out that we need to have a simple
version out for the November run, and that this version
is needed soon for progress on the Kalman Filtering front.
June 30 was set as a target date for this version.

Kalman Filtering (Maher):
-------------------------

Results were shown from a second round of tests of Kalman
filtering. These tests showed that Kalman filtering works
well with our detector spacing, and also works well
when the points are smeared out with a gaussian
distribution of 100-1000 microns. This suggests that
Kalman filtering might work for a first guess as well.
The reconstructed energy and angle distributions have
small errors (however energy loss and multiple scattering
are ignored at this point).

The fraction of events that were successfully reconstructed
varied as a function of theta, ranging form 97% at small
angles (10 degrees) and down to about 20% at big angles
(70 degrees) for an energy of 45 MeV.

The details of these results are posted at

http://stoney.phys.ualberta.ca/~e614//Projects/E614SOFTWARE/00054/

AOB:
----

Don raised the question of whether we have a cosmic ray
Monte Carlo simulation. This would be useful for the
November run. It was pointed out that a summer student
(Martin Shotter) last year worked on a cosmic ray
simulation with Dave Gill, but it is not clear how far
this went. Don volunteered to work on this simulation.
Maher and Renee will look up Martin's code and send it
to Don.

Renee pointed out that some sort of documentation of the
software code should be implemented and asked for a
volunteer. She will send out an email message to explain
this point. Paul Nord volunteered to look into this.
