Subject: Minutes (March 26, 1999)

(1) GEANT 1.2 & MOFIA 1.5 are ready for release for SGI and ALPHA. The
code is maintained in a special account (e614mgr) in a CVS repository.
Renee, Dennis and Maher will have access to the account. Renee will
maintain the libraries, Dennis will maintain the GEANT code, and Maher
will maintain the analysis code. Each institution will supply Renee with
the name of one person from that institution to be responsible for
checking out the code from the CVS repository. While this person will
have read as well as write access to CVS, the group decided that only
Renee, Dennis and Maher should be allowed to make changes to the code in
the CVS repository.

(2) Programming language: Fortran 90, C and C++ were discussed. Art was
asked to look into compiler costs and to post a list of
advantages/disadvantages of Fortran 90 vs Fortran 77 (the list was
posted on the E614 software page). Peter Gumplinger was asked to make a
similar list for C++ (Peter sent an email on the advantages of C++).

(3) Pattern recognition: It was agreed that more than one
person/institution can work simultaneously on pattern recognition code.
If more than one pattern recognition package is developed, the packages
will be evaluated based on their performance and CPU speed. However,
outlines/flowcharts should be posted by these persons/institutions to
help share ideas and facilitate the code development. Maher presented an
outline and flow chart. TAMU will post an outline/flowchart of their
ideas on pattern recognition.

(4) Monte Carlo: a Monte Carlo job list was presented by Dennis. Several
individuals/institutions volunteered for various MC jobs (a new MC job
list with volunteer names was posted on the E614 software page).

(5) Other platforms: Renee will start looking into putting the MC on
LINUX first since this might be a few-day job. This will allow both TAMU
and UA to run the MC. Renee will then look into putting the analysis
code on HP.

(6) Next meeting: the next meeting will be on Friday, April 9th.Dennis
will coordinate the meeting.
