Subject: Cradle is helium tight
Hi Folks,
We found the problem with the cradle helium sealing. Once fixed we
measured pressure vs flow rate (leak rate) for several different flows
from 168 cc/min down to 33 cc/minute. There is still a leak which is
easily fixed later on, but inspite of that we get a slope of
approximately 4.0 cc/minute for each mm of water (NOT Hg). 25 mm of
water is close to 2 torr. Anyway, projecting down to our operating
pressure of 70 mtorr (0.9 mm of water), I calculate a leak rate of 3.6
cc/minute!
This is better than I hoped. Please bear in mind that this was only a
test of the cradle; it's gasket seals around the cable plugs and on the
cover plates. The cable trays and cables were NOT present. Sealing
between the MANY cables is the other half of this process, we are
working on it. The covers are off the cradle now, the deflection tests
of the cradle start on monday.
