ARCHIVING DATA ON WESTGRID ========================== 1) VIA the script, ~e614/bin/wg-dsm-tar.perl Updates: KO, 30 April 2004: https://twist.phys.ualberta.ca/forum/view.php?site=twist&bn=twist_software&key=1083376535 Mina Nozar, April 10, 2006 You need to be logged into guide from the e614 acct. Use ~e614/bin/wg-dsm-tar.perl archive_name dir1 dir2 ... to archive directories dir1, dir2, etc into an archive named "archive_name". The DSM activity will be logged into ~e614/logs/wg-dsm-tar.log. Check ~e614/logs/wg-dsm-tar.log to see wether all your files have been archived without errors. Or bring up the dsm gui from guide and browse through the appropriate directory to see the list of files archived. Ex. To archive MOFIA generated files for set1: ~/e614/bin/wg-dsm-tar.perl set1-mofia-trees /global/scratch/twist/systematics/data/set1/anal1/root ========================================================================================================== 2) VIA the DSM GUI run on guide: George Kwei and Konstantin Olchanski, 18 Nov 2003 https://twist.phys.ualberta.ca/forum/view.php?bn=twist_software&key=1069205309 Updates: January 21 2004 -- Kate Ross April 2005 -- much too late! Art Olin April 4 2006 -- Mina Nozar Currently dsm is only run from guide, for which it's performance is optimized. Log on to guide from the e614 acct from a nunatak and invoke dsm. Files archived from the nunataks may be accessed, but they do not appear without going to the directory for that node. So from guide: 1. run 'DSM', brings up GUI window 2. click 'archive files and directories into long term storage' button, brings up new GUI window 3. check boxes on left column to select directories to archive 4. click 'Options' button, brings up window 5. from Options window, select 'delete after archive' 6. from Options window, select 'override include/exclude list' 7. from Options window, select 'Management class' and choose 'archive longterm' 8. click 'OK' 9. Change the 'description' field (at the top of the window, just under the menu buttons) in order to appropriately name the archive 10. click 'Archive', wait again. 11. Your are done!
