- Prepare for a Shift

Understand what is to be accomplished during your shift. To do
this you should read the logs (paper and elog), and understand the
appropriate run plan section. Check to see if white-board in
hospitality class has up-to-date detailed instructions.

 - Beginning of shift duties

Set the proper Operator name from the MIDAS Status page,
selecting the link Operators below the button Elog.

 - Monitor the system

You are responsible for the detector, and data taking while you are
on shift. To do this :

         - Monitor DAQ

	         - Make sure there are no unexpected warnings and that all
programs are running. [Yellow warning on scint
		      is expected Oct. 21, 2002]

 - When programs are aborted check to make sure that they
restart. Either see that warnings go away as
midas page is reloaded or examine messages in
		      appropriate terminal.

 - At some point during your shift, take a snapshot
of the ubeam window (showing the M13 status) and
post it in the elog. (You should also do this
when you change the beamline settings, unless
you're doing a scan of some kind; even then,
post a snapshot at the beginning of the scan.)

	  - Monitor histories

	         - Look for parameters that have changed beyond normal
		 variance.

 - Gas system parameters can be evaluated using Robert's
		      Gas System
Monitoring Instructions found at the front
of the notebook containing the walk-around
		      checklist.

	  - Perform Gas system
	      check

 - Monitor
	      histograms and data:

		   - QOD histograms

 - Mofia histograms

		       - Histograms for split runs are found in
		       /twist/data7/auto/split_mofia/current/data

 - Histograms for full runs are found in
		       /twist/data7/auto/full_mofia/current/data

		    - Photo, We need documentation on location and kcm file.
		   Use the following commands:

		           - setenv MTIN [data filename and path]

 - photo

 - set photo on

 - an

        - Document what you are doing in the elog.

Record any changes to the system, or running conditions.
Also make a note when moving to a new step in the Run Plan.

	       - Once a shift post an elog with a capture of the u_Beam status
	       from slow controls.

	 - Dealing with problems

	        - Query the elog for related entries.

 - Contacting the Run Coordinator anytime day or night is
appropriate. Phone numbers and pager numbers are in the
		     directory
and on the white board in the counting room.

 - Experts and deputy run coordinators are also available.

 - Calls at inconvenient hours to those other than the run
coordinator should be made at the discretion of
those on shift. If the call is questionable,
		     phone the run coordinator first.

        - End of shift duties

	      - Write a shift
		   summary

 - Transfer information to the next shift

 - If next shift doesn't arrive:

		     - try to call next shift person

 - phone run coordinator or deputy run coordinator

 - continue with run plan until next shift
			  arrives.

	       - Please clean up after yourself. The garbage bin is
outside of the counting room because of the squirrel.

 - Note that the boxes of paper in the counting rooms are
	      for recycling rather than garbage.
