Run Plan for 17 july 2002
Check over the shift guidelines to make sure you know what your shift duties are. Remember to check on the gas system particularly at night. Shift checklists are here. In addition to the regular shift duties, you should be checking the He flow rates approximately every half hour for the cooling of the magnet. It is important that we document beam settings including slit and jaw settings each time they are changed for a set of runs.
- Alignment Data: Data with 120 MeV/c pions (10 runs with a focussed tune, and 6 runs with an unfocussed tune)
- Rate Study of "Clean Events" vs. Beam Rate: Data with different slit settings for 29.4 MeV Muns. What is the optimum beam rate?
- Study upstream PC current vs foil degrader setting for high rate 29.4 muons. Try to figure out what the source of this higher current is.
- Cross Talk studies (as requested by Maher and Marc):
- 29.4 MeV muons 400k events per run. (analyze only muon window of simple clean events). Low enough rate to get enough clean events. Note rates (muon, positron) at beginning and end of scans.
- HV scan. (1800,) 1850, 1900, 1950 (, 2000) V. Adjust all PC HV.
- Threshold scan. 175, 250, 325 mV. Only adjust ganged PC wire thresholds. PAD crates and slot numbers of ganged PC wires:
- Crate 0: 1, 4, 5, 8
- Crate 5: 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20
- Crate 10: 17, 20, 21, 24
- Rate scan. 500, 1k, 2k, 4k
- Threshold efficiency scan. 175, 250, 325 mV. (only needed if cross talk went down significantly in previous threshold scan) 2x100k events of 120MeV/c spray pions at each threshold
- Test Muon projection. Set up a spray tune of 29.4 muons to illuminate the muon counter, and look at the reconstructed projection of the muon counter. Use this to get a measure of the position resolution of the muon projection.
If the above plan is completed, the following are some lower priority items which could be investigated.
- Try to figure out what beam settings should be used for 0 polarization
- Figure out if we actually can stop muons in the target. See some of the elog postings from a few nights ago.
