The purposes of the remaining beamtime are: I. Characterize all beams used so far, for input into simulation - covered by items 1,2,9 II. Understand the apparent off-axis beam, and control it with Q6 steering or otherwise. See if it is affected at all by solenoid on vs off. - covered by items 4,5,6 III. Trace origin of F2H position requirement (-5mm) - covered by item 9, but needs more details IV. Where did the rate go? - possibly covered by item 4, second part - need to look up or develop a tune with vertical focus at F1,F2 V. Can we make TEC work better? - both existing and new - items 3, 8 to check TEC alignments - need input on other studies needed to understand TEC - can we get a four hole collimator made and add this to the plan? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The runplan -- so far. 0. TEC fixing (Saturday Nov 20) - Looks like the downstream module will not hold the nominal voltage when beam is on, so we need to get this fixed first 1. Field-on with aperture (Saturday Nov 20) - all characterization runs with no quad steering -- unplug it to be sure! - beam characterization run of "high rate" with aperture - One 2Gbyte run <= 15minutes - 29.6MeV/c nominal tune with F0=24mmx80mm, B2=944G - leave detector on, tune stopping distribution using Be production to stop in working planes upstream (DC13-16) using film strip degrader and gas degrader - switch to Graphite production target for characterization runs 2. Field-on with no aperture (Saturday Nov 20) - take out the aperture and pump down takes < about 45 minutes - beam characterizations with Graphite production target: - nominal 29.6MeV/c with F0=18mmx60mm, B1=871.30G, B2=944.00G (10minutes to setup, 10 minutes to run) - nominal (with slightly wrong B1,and F0wid) 29.6 with F0=18mmx57.1mm, B1=871.37G, B2=944.00G (10minutes to setup, 10 minutes to run) - high rate 29.6MeV/c with F0=24mmx80mm, B1=871.30G, B2=944.00G (10minutes to setup, 10 minutes to run) - B2+5G 29.6MeV/c with F0=18mmx60mm, B1=871.30G, B2=949.00G (10minutes to setup, 10 minutes to run) Time estimate for graphite target in 1 and 2 above: 2.5 to 4 hours 3. field-on with collimator (Saturday Nov 20) - do we get any beam? - take a runs at nominal 29.6MeV/c tune - try turning off Q6,Q7 to see if we can fill the apertures, and take a run 4. Field-on with no aperture (Sunday Nov 21, Monday Nov 22) - quad steering studies: - using nominal 29.6MeV/c tune do Q6, B2 scans to see if we can bring beam in at zero position and angle in X,U,Y,and/or V - we have some input here from Dave and Wayne's runs of Wed evening - move power supply to study Q7 steering (Monday Nov 22)... but there can only bring beam in parallel to axis or going through zero at a certain point - anything else? - where did the rate go study: - try loading a tune with a vertical focus at f1 and f2 to see if we get back our rate (assumes that window valve vertical apperture is the culprit) 5. Ramp field to 1Tesla for a few TEC+detector studies (Thursday Nov 25) - ramp very slowly from 2T to 1.8T while taking data so we can see if/how beam moves as we do this - during ramp take TEC and detector data with nominal 29.6MeV/c tune, with muons stopping in DC13-16 (Add in foil degrader and adjust gas degrader to stop there) - turn off B2 regulator during ramp to see how field changes as we lower the solenoid field for constant B2 current - At 1T, with muons stopping in DC13-16 to take a B2 scan - At 1T take a run (or a few?) with nominal 29.6 tune, with muons stopping in stopping target 6. Ramp field to 0Tesla (Friday Nov 26) - during ramp take TEC and detector data - turn off B2 regulator during ramp to see how field changes as we lower the solenoid field for constant B2 current 7. Field-off collimator in or out doesn't matter (Friday Evening Nov 26) - alignment data (8hours) - t0 runs (2 to 3 hours) 8. Field-off with collimator (Saturday Nov 27) - change to MTEC trigger - TEC t0 runs to check alignments - try turning off Q6,Q7 to see if we can fill the apertures, and take a run 9. Field-off no collimator (Saturday Nov27 - Monday Nov29) - repeat no aperture characterizations with graphite target in item as in 2. (Saturday evening Nov 27) - again we can set up the conditions for stopping in right place in detector before switching from Be to C - Momentum edge scan with nominal beam tune as used for standard sets: F1HP=0,F2HP=-5mm,F0=18mmx60mm, C prod target - this is another 10hour of beam time with C target - beam studies with field off... to be spelled out in more detail later (Sunday Nov 28, Monday Nov29) - trace origin of F2H position requirements: - Q1, Q2, F1H, M13WV, F2H, Q3-Q5 - various tuning exercizes with above beamline elements 10. Field-off scattering study (Thu Dec 2 or Fri Dec 3) - Makoto suggests we take beam positron field off runs at several momenta to study scattering using straight line fits (30,35,40,45,50,55 MeV/c beamtunes) Detector out around Monday Dec 6.
