The planes are labeled according to the coordinate they measure: "X-planes" measure X, "Y-planes" measure Y, "U-planes" measure U and "V-planes" measure V.
In the MOFIA geometry file, the U and V planes are made out of X-planes by rotating them around the Z-axis, as shown in this figure (note the location of wire 1):
