The U-V-Z coordinates used in MOFIA are derived from the X-Y-Z coordinates like this: the X axis becomes the U axis and the Y axis becomes the V axis after a rotation around the Z axis by +45 degrees.
The X-Y-Z coordinates are defined in the usual way- the Z axis is oriented along the beam line, in the beam direction, the Y axis points up and the X axis completes a right-handed coordinate system.
The (positive) +45 degree rotation is defined by a right-handed screw: a positive (clock-wise) rotation will drive a right-handed screw into the wall.
