Conclusions and Recommendations

The Quality of Data Monitor for the TWIST experiment has been developed to a degree at which it can evaluate the consistency of many detector parameters. QOD successfully fills and reports those histograms with statistically significant changes over the course of data taking. Histograms investigating multiple wire hits, beam spots, wire occupancies and cross talk wire occupancies allow shift operators to identify changes in chamber noise levels, abnormal gain, stopping distribution, beamline focusing apparatus, and malfunctioning wires or planes. By minimizing the effects of these changes the data taken by the experiment will be better able to allow precise determinations of factors describing the weak interaction.

Further development of the QOD code is required. Definitions of absolute levels at which a histogram change is important may be added in place of the global setting of the False Alarm Probability. Steps should also be made to make the program more user friendly, which will promote its use by shift operators. Consistent running of the QOD program by members of the TWIST experiment during future data taking will allow refinements and changes in the parameters being monitored.
